Mahalia's Whole Food Cafe is very pleased to be partnering with @toogoodtogo.uk helping to fight food waste, here in the UK. We are the first cafe in this part of the country who is pioneering this movement. Too Good To Go is an app providing a marketplace that connects businesses who have surplus food with members of the public who want to rescue this food. Nostalgia!! Yum! Just out of the oven. Baked for the kids lunch box sweet treats. This brings back fondest childhood memories of mum's coconut rock buns with a glazed cherry on top. They use to be one of my favourite bakes👌🏿😋 Only these are gluten free version made with coconut sugar. And I blended sunflower seeds and linseed instead of grated coconut. So today is World Diabetes Day 2019. Eight years ago after giving birth to my son,I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes, and I was at my biggest - size20/22. It scared the stuffing out of me. Because my dad was diabetic, so are many other family members. Hereditary? Maybe. But do you know that we can over ride those genes by a healthy lifestyle. And so that's what I did. I managed to reverse mine through lifestyle changes, self love and determination. And reversed several other health problems. Five years on and my blood sugar levels have been stable year on year and I feel my best in my 40's than in my 30's. So it can be done...we deserve the right to be healthy. Let food be our medicine not our weapon to early death. Over 422 million people worldwide are living with the disease and many more undiagnosed. It's a disease that is caused by our environment i.e lifestyle. But can be reversed by our environment i.e lifestyle changes. So why are so many people still living with it....? #milliondollarquestion Here in the UK it is estimated that over 4 million of the population is living with the disease. That is over 6% of our population.
