Hi & Welcome !
Here you get to know more about me.
I’m Mahalia ‘the wellness mummy’. I am a Certified Health Coach.
I rely on evidence-based research to guide my decisions on food, natural remedies, and making my own beauty and cleaning products, self care and self love in body, mind and spirit.
I am passionate about nourishing my family with Real Food – natural whole foods. I live a Grace-filled natural lifestyle. I believe food and health are gifts from God to be enjoyed and stewarded.
I live in the beautiful countryside of Somerset, England. I’m originally from Guyana in South America (often associated with the Caribbean). I’m married to Shaun, and together we have two children – Hannah 9 and Joseph 7 . So, that makes me a ‘yummy mummy’ Right !. They are ‘full of beans’ with very different personalities and taste buds.
I’m a Christian who lives a Grace-filled natural life – body, mind, soul and spirit. In my life’s manual handbook ‘The Bible’, it says ‘our bodies are the temple of The Holy Spirit’ ( John 3:2 ) and therefore I need to take care of it. It also says,’I am fearfully and wonderfully made’ – my body is marvelously designed by my creator and he expects me to take care of it.
Solomon wrote, “A good report makes the bones healthy” (Proverbs 15:30). Not only is it important to nourish my body with healthy foods but I also found that having a healthy mind helps me to think clearly and are more able to deal with the stresses of life when it comes along. Paul wrote: “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8). Therefore I feed myself spiritually through prayers, bible reading and meditation, gratitude and songs of praise, affirmations and acts of service to others.
I fell in love with jogging over the pass months and so that’s one of the way I exercise while enjoying the lovely countryside. I also hit the gym two times a week.
I’m on a journey to health and wellness, together with my family. We are taking baby steps in changing our Whole Body’s lifestyle.
I love food, ‘Real Food’, wholesome and natural. I love everything about food, cooking it, eating it, researching about it,talking and writing about it.
But most importantly I now use food as my medicine and medicine my food. So that makes me a ‘Real Food Nutter or a Wellness Nutter’, RIGHT? But you bet, I was never always like this. You can read my story here.
So when I’m not in my little country kitchen, and I mean little, creating and developing new sugar-free, dairy free and gluten-free recipes and making our own skin care products (my kids both have eczema and food intolerance, which I manage naturally). I’m on other mummy duties or, getting up to some sort of creative project with the kids.
I work part time supporting adults with learning disabilities and other disabilities. It is quite rewarding I must add.
Why I created this Blog
I wanted to share my experiences with you, the love for cooking with natural wholesome foods, how I love experimenting with essential oils in making home remedies. And share the way I have changed my lifestyle and experiencing rewarding health benefits.
Another reason is: early this year the BBC reported that “For the first time in centuries, the current generation of children will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents…” that was so shocking to hear. I didn’t realise how this nation’s children and young people’s health were in much a declining state and also the rise in adult lifestyle diseases.
In more resent months, the BBC and other media has reported how sugary foods and drinks are damaging our health. The increasing number of different kinds of cancer in children and young people, childhood obesity and diabetes and the alarming rate of mental health in children and adult suicides. And the alarming increase in food allergies and intolerances. Well let me tell you, those reports has struck a nerve in me and so I started to put pen to paper or shall I say, finger to key board. And so Mahalia’s Wellness Kitchen was born, June 2016.
My Goals
I am passionate about empowering others to celebrate God’s gift of food and health. To inspire, motivate and equip you on your journey of eating healthily and living a more natural lifestyle.
I know how it feels to have tried many diets in an attempt to lose weight and they all failed. Leaving me feeling guilty and helpless. But by changing my lifestyle I have found freedom. I have been through my fair share of health issues too.But thank God I’m on the road to wellness, using food as my medicine and medicine my food. Read about my story here.
I also know what it feels like as a mum, having two picky eaters myself and both with food intolerance and eczema and if you let them, they would choose to eat all the unhealthy food in front of ‘real foods’.They are better eaters now though, through perseverance and being consistent with our food choices.
I will teach you how to take baby steps towards a more natural lifestyle – achieving Total Body Wellness – Body, Mind and Spirit.
I will show you how to make simple delicious and healthy meals for you and your family. With recipes to suite everyone – wheat and gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy free, vegan and vegetarian, paleo and afro Caribbean foods. I’ll show you how to find and make effective natural remedies for you and your family.
